One of the first tasks for the NGDS is to determine a set of standards for data contribution. This will include requirements & suggestions for formatting both the raw data and data products, as well as descriptions of the metadata that should be included for each dataset you will report. Because our user community is so diverse, simply coming up with a comprehensive set of data fields for us host will not be an easy task. For this reason, we are asking you to suggest the types of data you plan to either contribute to or search for in the system. We have created an Interactive Data Tree tool for you to give us your suggestions and see which data fields we implemented as part of our database.
Interactive Data Tree Functionality:
-You must be logged in to the NGDS website to add new items, but you can view all current items without logging in.
-Items are organized in a hierarchical structure where the primary level consists of general data topics.
-General topics can contain a mixture of more specific data sub-topics and individual data fields.
-Sub-topics can also contain both sub-topics and individual fields as sub-items.
-To see sub-items, click on the plus symbol to the left of the item. Similarly, clicking on the minus symbol will hide the sub-items.
-To add a sub-item, right-click on the item and choose 'Add Item'. In the box that pops-up:
-Give the item a name and describe it so others will understand the kinds of data that belong in the topic or field.
-Click on the 'Is Required' checkbox if you think the field you are adding should be required information when users add data to the system.
-To delete an item, right-click on it and choose ‘Delete Item’. You will only be allowed to delete items you added.
-When the ‘Implemented?’ field is marked “True” the item has been officially adopted into the NGDS data model.
-If there is important information about how an item has been implemented, the ‘Notes’ field will convey this. For example, you may have suggested an item that was already included in the data model under a different name.
