NGDS Data Contributors

NGDS Data Contributors

The National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) is a nationwide network of data repositories hosting geothermal-relevant data. Each data "node" participating in NGDS receives, manages and provides content independently. The content hosted in these repositories is made publicly available through a distributed framework and unified catalog search interface provided by NGDS. Nodes may also choose to allow users to search the entire NGDS catalog from their web interface(s). As the NGDS is not equipped to store more than catalog metadata, contributions of data typically go directly to the appropriate participating data repository. Repositories currently participating in the NGDS include:

DOE Geothermal Data Repository (DOE-GDR), National Renewable Energy Laboratory's OpenEI Project (data storage and serving) and Geothermal Data Exchange (Boise State University; data curation). Receives data from DOE-funded projects.

Energy Geosciences Institute, University of Utah, Geothermal Program. Acquires data as part of their normal operations, receives outside data on a case-by-case basis. (http://www.egi.utah.edu/GeothermalCapabilities.aspx)

Geothermal Data Exchange (GDEx), Boise State University, lead institution. Focuses on acquiring legacy and new data which is not being collected by any of the other nodes. (http://www.geothermalex.org/)

Geo-Heat Center, Oregon Institute of Technology. Acquires data as part of their normal operations, receives outside data on a case-by-case basis. (http://geoheat.oit.edu)

Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, College of Science, University of Nevada, Reno. Acquires data as part of their normal operations, receives outside data on a case-by-case basis. (http://www.nbmg.unr.edu/geothermal/)

Stanford Geothermal Program, Stanford University. Collects and collates data from geothermal conferences and workshops, in the form of papers, reports and sometimes presentations. Also collects and stores data from experiments from within the Stanford Geothermal research projects. (http://pangea.stanford.edu/ERE/research/geoth)

SMU Geothermal laboratory, Southern Methodist University. Part of a consortium, acquires data as part of their normal operations, receives outside data on a case-by-case basis. (http://smu.edu/geothermal/)

State Geothermal Data, Association of American State Geologists, comprised of four hubs, lead by Arizona Geological Survey, also Illinois State Geological Survey, Kentucky Geological Survey, and the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. Receives data from state geological surveys. (http://www.stategeothermaldata.org/)
